Imperial Knight

This figure represents one of the Spanish knights who left Pavia in the final phase of the battle to attack the French from behind. 

The Imperial forces descended upon the second square of Swiss soldiers who, encamped in the area known as the Cinque Abbazie (Five Abbeys), so called because of the presence to the east of Pavia of the monasteries of San Paolo, Santo Spirito, San Giacomo, Sant'Apollinare, and San Pietro in Verzolo, were heading towards the battle. 

The knight is captured at the precise moment when he is about to strike an enemy, who in the tapestry is Johann von Diesbach.
